Standard 1: Learner Development

The teacher understands how learners grow and develop, recognizing that patterns of learning and development vary individually within and across the cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical arenas, and designs and implements developmentally appropriate and challenging learning experiences.

" Nina compares the experiment to everyday experiences with hot/cold packs.  Nina uses a variety of sources to enhance the students' learning"~~R. Sitron-Student teacher Supervisor

"Ms. Allouch use a wide range of teaching strategies to keep ALL  students on task. She uses examples that help students visualize concepts that may be difficult for students to understand. For example, when she was teaching the students about the location of electrons in the atom's energy levels (quantum chemistry), she compared the "electron's address" to their own personal home addresses."~~ D. hoehn-CT

Artifact: Classroom Management  & Organization Plan

 Description :

The utmost challenge in my classroom is to ensure growth of each and every  student with a varied range of abilities.  In my Classroom management & Organization Plan ,  I clearly documented my ability to tailor my instruction to maximize  the learners' growth which was achieved by setting routines and  high expectations at the beginning of the school year. Furthermore, I also tried to plan  my instructional strategies to promote  higher-order thinking  skills by building  a community of learners . I  tried to be a supportive, caring, cooperative teacher, be available for students and should engage students in activities to collaborate, benefit from each other’s experiences, and enhance their critical thinking. While doing science in an inquiry style, students should be engaged at all the times.Talking is common place in my classroom, along with all group work. Students are encouraged to participate in any classroom activities or discussions either by raising their hands or by picking the less attentive students in order to keep all students aware of what we are learning in class. Students should stay alerted not only present in the classroom. All students in my classroom should exchange respect with me as well as with their peers who create trust and positive feelings of belongings.

"Nina gets in touch with the parents through emails with the CT. She sent home a newsletter regarding the PTC. They use a district wide website for students and their parents as a mean of resources, syllabus, assignments, and reminders for upcoming events. She also calls parents in a regular daily basis to make them aware of their students; growth. They also use Student Connect to post the students grades a! And the parents have access to that too."~~ R. Sitron-S.T Supervisor

 Reflection:

In order for students to academically succeed,  parents, students ,and teachers should work together to support and develop roles , skills, and responsibilities throughout the year. Successful teachers should uphold  an effective management plan supported by his/ her students as well as their parents. At the beginning of the school year, I gave each student a  "Student-Teacher Contract" at the beginning of the school year that outlined the  rules and expectations for the students' behavior in both the classroom and the chemistry laboratory.  With the  help of parents, the students' motivation, time management, and organization can always stay on track  , engaged ,and be able to excel and perseverance.
